Simons Foundation Invites Applications for Science Engagement Microgrants

The Simons Foundation’s Science Sandbox is an initiative dedicated to inspiring a deeper interest in science, especially among those who don’t think of themselves as science enthusiasts.

To that end, the foundation welcomes applications for its COVID-19 Microgrants for Nonprofits That Promote Science Engagement program. Through the program, microgrants of $25,000 will be awarded to nonprofits with a science-engagement focus that are facing operations and staffing challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Awards are unrestricted and have informal, low-touch reporting requirements. The program is open to existing and previous Science Sandbox awardees and other organizations within the science communication field.

The foundation recognizes that COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted Black and Hispanic/Latinx communities. Organizations that serve these communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

To be eligible, applicants must be tax-exempt as defined under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

See the Simons Foundation website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
