The primary mission of the Research Foundation of the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons is to raise and award funds to support research and educational programs related to colon and rectal diseases.
To that end, the foundation welcomes applications for its Career Development Award (CDA). The award will provide $75,000 a year over two years to provide a young surgeon with the support necessary for the initiation and development of an academic career in colorectal surgery. The award is intended to benefit the career development and mentorship of the recipient rather than the research proposal solely, and to help the academic investigator demonstrate significant creativity in research relevant to the pathophysiology or management of diseases of the colon, rectum, anus, or small bowel.
To be eligible, applicants must be within five years of their first full-time faculty appointment in a U.S. or Canadian government, public, or private not-for-profit medical institution; be a U.S. or Canadian citizen having completed an approved colorectal surgery training program, or, if a foreign national, have a valid work visa at the time of application; and be a member of ASCRS.
See the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons website for complete program guidelines, application instructions, and examples of recently funded applications.
