Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Invites LOIs for Hard-To-Treat Childhood Cancers

Deadline: April 26, 2021 (Letters of Intent)

The Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness of and money to address the causes of childhood cancer. The foundation emerged from the front-yard lemonade stand of four-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who while fighting cancer herself wanted to raise money to find cures for all children with cancer. Her spirit and determination was inspirational, and by her untimely death at the age of 8, Alex had helped raise $1 million. Today, ALSF is one of the leading funders of pediatric cancer research in the United States and Canada.

To help advance this mission, ALSF welcomes applications for its Crazy 8 Initiative, which seeks to fund  innovative, rigorous research that directly addresses the most intractable issues in pediatric cancer today. Crazy 8 awards are designed to coalesce cross-disciplinary teams of scientists working collaboratively in order to accelerate the pace of new  discoveries.

In 2021, priority will be given to projects involving innovative studies of high-grade gliomas, non-medulloblastoma embryonal brain tumors, non-Ewing Sarcoma fusion-positive sarcomas, fusion-negative sarcomas, big data, and/or serving to catalyze clinical trials. Investigators with proposals focused on leukemias, neuroblastoma, Ewing sarcoma, and medulloblastoma are welcome to apply, but ALSF has established areas of prioritization for this round of funding in order to fund a broadly representative community of investigators working across many different cancer types.

Depending on the type of project and the size of the team, the requested budget should be in the range of $3 million to 5 million over four years.

To be eligible, applicants must have an MD, PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent and be a faculty member (or equivalent) at an academic institution; applicants need not be a citizen of the United States. Applicant institutions must be not-for-profit and may be based in the United States or abroad.

Letters of Intent are due April 26. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal by August 6, 2021.
