The mission of the Gerner Family Charitable Gift Fund is to fund and support nonprofit programs that directly improve the health, education, and welfare of people and communities in South Carolina.
To help advance that mission, the fund is accepting proposals from organizations working to address food insecurity in Greenville and Spartanburg counties. Proposals should aim to improve the production, availability, affordability, and/or consumption of nutritious foods, with a focus on underserved populations including people experiencing homelessness, low-income families, people living in food deserts, single-parent households, minorities, and people who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19.
Programs eligible for funding include food distribution or mobile meal delivery, meal halls, produce or farmer’s markets, grocery pop-ups, capital and infrastructure improvements (e.g., a food delivery truck), community or school gardens, or community-supported agriculture (CSA).
The fund will not consider proposals for funding audits or insurance, fundraising events, or marketing; budgets in which more than 50 percent of the funds go to administration costs; advocacy and/or lobbying activities; individual scholarships; organizations with 501(c)(4) status; for-profit organizations; or endowments
The fund will award grants of up to $15,000 to projects that meet its selection criteria. This is a one-time, non-renewable grant available only to 501(c)(3) organizations in South Carolina. Individuals are not eligible for this opportunity.
The submission deadline for proposals is May 14. Proposals should be submitted by email to firstname.lastname@example.org in a single PDF file. Successful applicants will be notified of their award within sixty days of the application deadline.
