Minneapolis Foundation Accepting Applications for Youth Summer Experiences

The Minneapolis Foundation has issued a Request for Proposals for its 612 Youth Engagement Project.

The goal of the annual program is to support a continuum of meaningful summer experiences for underserved youth (ages 5-17) in the Minneapolis area.

Eligible program activities should target one of three areas: neighborhood-based experiences, day-trip experiences, and camp-based experiences.

1) Neighborhood-based experiences: Grant of up to $5,000 will be awarded for projects like creating a mural, a performing arts production, or building/maintaining a youth garden.

2) Day-trip experiences: Grants of up to $7,500 will be awarded for field trips that provide intensive outdoor experiences (including multi-day, non-residential, nature-based camp experiences such as hiking, canoeing, preparing food outdoors, orienteering, etc.) or STEM-focused experiences (including hands-on and inquiry-based activities at a museum).

3) Camp-based experiences: Grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded for camp-based experiences that involve a short residential experience such as excursions to residential outdoor centers or camps that give young people a sense of the natural world and their place in it. The program also supports camp experiences that build leadership skills, youth voice, and confidence through team-building activities and self-identified learning projects

To be eligible, applicants must be recognized as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and serve underserved Minneapolis- area youth between the ages of 5 and 17.

The foundation will begin accepting applications for the program on January 5, 2018. All applications must be received no later than 2:00 p.m. on February 5, 2018.

See the Minneapolis Foundation website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
